A hair transplant consultation is one of the most important steps of the entire process – after all, it is the only way that you can be sure that you’re getting the right treatment for your hair loss.  

A consultation will allow you and your surgeon to discuss the results that you’re hoping for from your hair transplant clinic and the best course of treatment for your hair loss, as well as giving you the opportunity to ask any questions that you might have. 

Here’s what you can expect at a hair transplant consultation.

Discussing your medical history 

 If you have been researching different hair restoration clinics, you may notice that many offer free consultations. However, these consultations will almost always be with a sales representative, rather than a qualified medical professional. As a result, you may be sold treatments that are totally unsuitable for your needs.

Understanding your medical history is an important part of the consultation process, so Dr Pauls will discuss yours and your family’s medical history, to determine which hair restoration procedures would not only suit your hair loss, but also be safest for you. 

Assessing your hair loss 

 Next, your scalp will be thoroughly examined to assess the degree of hair loss. Without this, there is no way to be sure which type of treatment is best to achieve what you’re hoping for. The density of your hair and the degree of miniaturisation will be examined, as well as the pattern of the hair loss. This examination will also help us to determine how many hairs grafts you would need to achieve the most natural look. 

Although many patients are suitable candidates for hair transplants, without a thorough examination, we can’t be certain that it’s in your best interest – if this is the case, Dr Paul will be able to discuss potential alternatives to hair restoration surgery, such as non-surgical treatments. 

Once the best course of treatment has been recommended – including the number of procedures required – you will have the opportunity to discuss the risks and benefits of the treatment, as well as the pre- and post-operative aftercare.
